I don't care about BMW anymore. Yeah, that's right.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they're still good cars, but I just don't care. I don't really care to look at them, read about them, or watch videos about them. It just seems like it's always more of the same coming from them, and I've lost interest. Sure I like the i8, that's the exception. But one car isn't enough to make me care about the new So-and- So iXDriveGranCoupeGranTurismoBlahBlahYouStoppedReading. And I liked the 1 Series/ 1M, but as we all know, they axed that in favor of the 2 series which I don't really like or care about.
I see a picture of a new BMW and just think "Meh." Maybe someday they'll make cars that actually excite me about the brand again, but until then, I'm going to just think about the good old days when they made cool stuff like the M1, E30, and 2002.

Wait until a 4-Series or a 6-er Gran Coupe glides past you; you'll care again because they're gorgeous.

I don't care about BMW anymore, either. I mildly care about the 2-Series and Z4. But that's it. Too many acronyms. Too much bloat. Overwrought styling. Cynical marketing.

I saw a new Alpina B7 the other day and all I thought was "Hmm never seen an Alpina before. Neat."
But yeah, I haven't seen either of those before, I'd be happy to like BMW again.

I just hate the steering feel on new bimmers, I only like the m5 and m6 currently, and I hope the new m3/4's system is just as good as Porsches.

Couldn't you assail any auto brand not exclusively making supercars this way?
"I don't care about [BRAND]. Yeah, the [One car they still make that I like] is cool, but [all the stuff they make that I don't care about]. They need to get back to making [one or two cars they made that one time that I like]"

I'm in the same boat! I used to be and still am a fan of certain models, like the e30, last gen 6 series and mmm that z8. I'll never forget driving that Z8...
But you're right. It doesn't excite me one bit. They seem like generic with a ton of bloat and they've lost that lust. I want to love those kidneys but I just can't. I would note that I feel the same about today's Mercedes as well.

Agreed. I liked most of what they were doing before the 2-series, 4-series, X6, X1, and basically making multiple "versions" of the same car. What the hell is going on.
I saw an ad for an Audi A5 4-door yesterday. The bullshit is spreading...

For me (I'm not OP), it's more of a brand thing. I don't car at all about BMW's and never have. I just can't care about them very much. Don't get me wrong I am not a fan of all the beige camry's out there, but there are Toyota's that I like like the BRZ or old Yota pickups.
For BMW the whole lineup is Meh to me and has been for a while.

Z8's are badass, how'd you get to drive one of those?

Sure, I suppose you could, if they only had one interesting car in their lineup.

One of my dad's clients had one. (My dad is a landscaper that's apparently good at what he does because I got to drive quite a few unicorns his clients owned before I had my full permit)

BMW has rarely ever made supercars. But the cars they did make used to be a lot more engaging, nice to look at, understated, and not overcomplicated with overwrought styling, silly marketing, and names like sdrive35i tacked all over them.

Agree wholeheartedly. Mostly because I'll never allow myself to buy anything that expensive aside from a house. Additionally, if I buy an entry level 3-series, I am stamping "I am trying to make a name for myself in brown-nosing corporate America and can barely afford this car payment" on my forehead. No thanks, but I'll stick to my two blue ovals, Subaru and Ford

Silly marketing and naming sucks, but the nature of luxury cars and competition means the gadgets and - at times - performance and jalop cred hurting tradoffs for convenience are here to stay. Once the germans discovered they could jack their prices into the stratosphere in exchange for exclusivity and the social status, the days of simple, but well built, non-complicated and gadget free performance cars like the lightweight E30 were dead. Barring some kind of devastating market turn for german luxury, they're going to stay that way. The M2 is as close to that as we'll get, and we're not gonna get there without flappy paddles, leather everything, and a truckload of gadgets that will not-at-all help you at the autocross.
Here's some more bad news; Caddy discovered the same thing when re-doing their lineup, so they will never even have the chance to give us an E30. Lincoln will also skip that phase entirely once ford has the cash to properly restore that brand (unless they choose to flush it like Mercury)

I haven't driven one so I can't say anything about the way they drive other than what I've heard, but you aren't the first person to say that, so it seems that what you're saying is true.

I'd say I'm still interested in them, but my point of view is a little jaded by the BMWs I've been exposed to. All the one's I've driven are driving perfection. I'll reserve judgement until I get behind the wheel of one newer than 2008.

I disagree here, but thats only because I have a special place for BMW in my life. What your saying is not something new. The naming system is clearly a response to Mercedes and Audi. Which people may not like but I feel like they want to sell cars and keep their lead in the lux division. I still like most of the current models. The ones i don't like are just the body types I am not interested in (7, Xs, Gran Turismos). I still think that most of the line up is actually worth while and really good. I drove the current 328i in the fall and it was both seriously fast and composed. The steering isn't exactly like E30 or E36 but its much better than almost all electric systems in my opinion, with the exception of few I haven't driven. I don't think that they necessarily stopped making cool cars, considering that htey make more M cars now and more M sports than before. The 2 series and current 3 series are proof of that. As well as the current 6 series and I8. Even the generations before it were great. I personally didn't like E46 that much, I remember test driving a 325i from that generation and liking it but it didn't feel special. I settled on an E90 which I liked much more and is probably my favorite.
I don't think your wrong but its really just semantics, the company still makes they fun cars, they have just started branding the remainder of their cars the way Mercedes and Lexus have and even then those cars aren't half bad and still top of the league. BMW in the end is still a luxury automobile that wants to sell to divorcees and enthusiasts.

I know people who think so highly of themselves that after they got out of my Subaru and were very impressed with what they saw inside they asked me what the sticker price was new. I said when it was new, it was $35k. Their response: "hmmm... I guess I'll just have to get another Mercedes". To some people it's all about the badge on the front

I haven't cared about BMW since my 2005 E46 M3. A lot of it is looks, I just don't care for their styling, but there isn't a single model I'm interested any more.

That's what marketing people exploit. It's like when I pay for a 100$ soccer jersey, it's the player's dream to have his name on it and get paid, meanwhile I only lost a 100$ and some got some feels of association with greatness lol

Most BMWs appear as company fleet vehicles. Pretty good ones, though, but no car I'd love to own. They have the overall feeling of sound business. Nice design I guess, but nothing passionate. Too many variations of the same car and concept. Creating and filling niches just because. Highly expensive, even used, yet not exciting enough to justify the price for me.
Older BMWs, on the other hand...

Yeah, it's okay. Okay. Okay.
Then there's this beau...
...and this...
...and this, which started the trend of gorgeous sedans, still beating most imitators.
Even Audi managed to build something nice.
Argueably, the Lincoln MKZ is very smooth, too, yet a bit bland. I like it.
The Volvo S60 doesn't even try very hard to be a beauty, but it's kickin'.
Now, if I may compare the BMW to the new Hyundai Genesis...
...then they're not quite on par, but both cars aren't that far apart in the appearance section. The BMW somehow doesn't tickle me.
